Join Logan Amaral to explore West African music and dance through drumming, singing, and dancing. Logan holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts where he participated in an immersive education in world music, namely the music, dance, language, and history of Ghana, West Africa. Logan has performed in multiple countries worldwide and has been teaching music for over fourteen years.
In Logan’s classes, drumming will include traditional rhythms as well as general musical concepts, all played on authentic drums from Ghana. Singing will consist solely of songs in traditional languages of West Africa, including Eve, Dagbanli, and Gã. Dancing will incorporate highly energetic/athletic dances from Ghana. Each class stresses the importance of working together as an ensemble, listening to one another, and self expression. Instruments will be provided. No experience is required, all are welcome!
