Talking Drum Ensemble incorporates the instruments, rhythms, and songs of the Dagomba people in Northern Ghana. Like many West African instruments, the luna and gun-gon reflect patterns in speech. However, much deeper and more literal, every sound on these drums is based on language and communicates layers of meaning. Drummers are not only musicians, but also counselors, preservers of history, and a retinue to the various chiefs of Dagomba society. Participants will get to play authentic, handmade instruments from Ghana, and learn about the rich culture from which they come.
